The frame module constitutes the main support of the power turbine and includes the forward portion of the exhaust diffuser as well as the disk end rotor bearing support. A strutted frame provides bearing support and closely controls concentricity between rotor and stator parts. The inner hub of the frame is an intricate casting containing the forward journal bearing. The forward journal bearing can be replaced without removing the rotor. The hub is joined to the outer frame case via seven forged struts through the exhaust diffuser. These structural components are protected from the hot exhaust gases by an aerodynamically contoured exhaust fairing around each strut. The seven fairings are welded into the forward portion of the exhaust diffuser liners.

The strut fairing and forward diffuser liner assembly is supported on seven radial pins to the outer exhaust case. This provides for independent thermal expansion of the liner assembly to minimize thermal stress under start-up and cool-down cycles. Glass fiber insulation is placed between the inner diffuser and the bearing case to reduce heat transfer to the lubricating oil. The outer frame case contains two ball joints at the horizontal centerline which connect the power turbine to structural steel posts.
